1.1 OBJECTIVES OF HANDBOOK:
This Handbook is published by APSRTC in order to let the citizens know the objectives, policies, procedures followed, functions and to bring transparency and accountability into the system of its functioning.Though certain information is already made available to the citizens to the extent of relevance to them, this publication aims at imparting comprehensive knowledge about the organisation to the citizens in accordance with the recently enacted Right to Information Act, 2005.

1.2 PURPOSE OF THIS INFORMATION HANDBOOK:
It is firmly believed that this handbook on APSRTC makes the citizens familiar with the concepts like volume of operations, turn over, organisational structure, staffing patterns, roles, responsibilities and scales of pay of personnel in different cadres, corporate objectives and the policies and procedures followed in achieving those objectives and above all its concept of service to the public.

1.3 INTENDED USERS OF THIS HANDBOOK:
This handbook is aimed to provide general information on the Corporation to all those interested citizens. However, it is expected to be of particular interest to civil society organisations, non governmental / voluntary organisations, organisational structural designers, consultants, students, educational institutions, business organisations, traders, other governmental departments, public information officers, appellate officers, government information commissions etc.

TRAFFIC:
O.R.: Occupancy Ratio
E.P.K.: Earnings per Kilometer of operation
E.P.B.: Earnings per Bus
C.P.K.: Cost per Kilometer of operation
B.D.: Break down rate measured as number of break downs for 10000 kilometers of operation
Accident Rate: Number of accidents for 100000 kilometers of operation
F.U.: Fleet Utilisation
V.U.: Vehicle Utilisation
C.P.: Crew Productivity
E.P.: Employee Productivity
B.S.R.: Staff to Bus ratio
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING:
KMPL: Kilometers of operation per litre of diesel consumed. It is a measure of fuel conservation
Lub KMPL: Kilometers of operation per litre of lub oil consumed. It is a measure of lub oil conservation.

1.5 ORGANISATION OF INFORMATION:
The information in this handbook is organised into 17 logically arranged chapters (2 to 18) starting with the objectives, policies, functions, organisational structure, delegation of powers, staffing, role, responsibilities of key officers, scales of remuneration cadre wise, directory of officers, rules, regulations and disciplinary measures, documents prepared for managerial control, beneficiaries, web address etc.

1.6 GETTING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Manuals like Regulations, Operational Manual, Depot Maintenance Manual can be purchased by the citizens to get additional information. Further, the information specific to any region or depot can be obtained from the respective Regional Managers or Personnel Officers who are nominated as State Public Information Officers or State Assistant Public Information Officers respectively.
